When Lord Krishna Garlanded Prabhupada

February 25, 2012 in Articles, Bahushiras Das Adhikary by Nityananda Rama dasa

The following narration is from the visionary Memories series of Shriman Siddhanta das Adhikary. It is the remembrance of Shriman Bahushiras das Adhikary given in DVD 44 and in vol. 3, p. 334 of the book Memories-Anecdotes of a Modern-Day Saint.

After Shrila Prabhupada’s disappearance, [Patita Pavana das] asked if I’d like to assist Satswarupa’s Lilamrita project by interviewing people in India who had known Shrila Prabhupada. One of them was Acharya Prabhakar Misra, Prabhupada’s first disciple. Acharya Prabhakar Misra was clean-cut, well-behaved and articulate. His demeanor impressed me. He held a MA and PhD and was a very cultured Sanskrit scholar and teacher. In Jhansi, Prabhupada had told Acharya Prabhakar. “I met you because I saw you in a dream and I knew that I was supposed to come here.” Prabhupada and he would do bhajan together. They’d hold Rathayatra festivals and they’d have programme in villages in the area.

Acharya Prabhakar said that on Shri Krishna Janmashtami in 1954, he had to go to Delhi. When he returned to Jhansi, he took a little rest, woke up at 1:00 am and heard Shrila Prabhupada ecstatically playing mridanga in the temple room. Prabhupada was chanting in total bliss. Acharya Prabhakar went upstairs and saw Shrila Prabhupada bouncing around the temple room performing kirtan. Prabhupada was wearing a kadamba flower garland that went all the way down to his feet. Kadamba flowers are very rare in Jhansi and when they are available they are usually the size of a golf ball. But the ones Prabhupada was wearing were big, the size of tennis balls. And he said that the atmosphere right down to the atoms in the room was not material, aprakrita. The place was surcharged with the fragrance of the heavenly planets. Acharya Prabhakar wanted to ask Shrila Prabhupada, “Where did this garland come from? It is not available from the market.” But Shrila Prabhupada would not answer. His Divine Grace just kept on performing kirtan, bouncing round the room and chanting. The next morning Acharya Prabhakar asked Shrila Prabhupada, “Where did you get the garland, why did it have such a rich fragrance, and why were you feeling so blissful?”

GBC Elections & Term Limits : Detrimental Or Beneficial?

February 23, 2012 in Ameyatma Dasa, Articles by Nityananda Rama dasa

[Part Two of 2 articles written by Ameyatma das (Nov-2011) regarding the Direction Of Management]

When Srila Prabhupad was physically present the system of management for his society was:

The rank and file members Subordinate Temple Authorities (Treasurer, Vice President, Temple Commander, etc) Temple President Sannyasis (not managers, but social advisers) GBC members – individually for their zone GBC – as a body for the whole society Srila Prabhupad Sri Krishna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead (and Radharani, the Controller of the Supreme Personality of Godhead)

The intrinsic nature of this system provided a functioning and effective system of checks and balances.  Srila Prabhupad was and is (via his teachings) the absolute authority of His mission and  could only be checked by Radharani or Krishna.  As a pure empowered devotee and authorized representative of The Supreme Personality of Godhead, he required no other checks or balances to his authority.

Srila Prabhupad had appointed the GBC to represent him, to execute his instruction in his absence.  While Srila Prabhupad remained physically present he often needed to keep the GBC men in-check.  Srila Prabhupad formed the GBC 7 years prior to his departure and during those 7 years there were many times where he needed to remind them of their duties, admonish them for straying off the path, insist that they abide by the rules, etc. (both individually and as an entire body also). Srila Prabhupad was there to keep them in-check.

The Living Disciple

February 22, 2012 in Articles, Hasti Gopala Dasa by Nityananda Rama dasa

Srila Prabhupada’s teachings, his books and lectures are understood by all bona fide Vedic authorities to be non different from his physical presence. Srila Prabhupada’s formally initiated disciples prior to his physical departure can and do continue to relate to him non differently in the same manner as when he was physically present. To deny this fact is to deny the existence of an original bona fide relationship presently taking place with their guru Srila Prabhupada, confirming this fact means to confirm that the disciple is relating to Srila Prabhupada in the present therefore confirming the present existence of Srila Prabhupada on an equally valid level. That the first generation of disciples are living in relation to Srila Prabhupada also indicates the presence of a living Srila Prabhupada in relation to his disciples. Those to whom the disciples are willing to relate a living Srila Prabhupda to, are representing a living Srila Prabhupada. One cannot remove the non different Srila Prabhupada from the vapu of a living disciple.

What exactly is –KARMA??

February 13, 2012 in Damaghosa Dasa by Damaghosa dasa

..”Whatever you do, that is your satisfaction. That is  karma.…for your own sense satisfaction, that is karma. And if you  do it for Krsna’s satisfaction, that is karma-yoga.”–SP
Hare Krsna to all

Below is a short excerpt of a conversation with Srila Prabhupada on  KARMA–we all toss this word

The Branches of Lord Chaitanya’s Movement

February 13, 2012 in Articles, Narasimha Dasa by Nityananda Rama dasa

____________________________________________

I have been reading in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta (Madhya 10) about some of the main branches of Lord Chaitanya’s sankirtana movement. Srila Krishnadas Kaviraja Gosvami describes nearly eighty main branches of the movement of Sri Chaitanya and then states at the end of the chapter that the branches and sub-branches of Lord Chaitanya’s tree are unlimited and produce unlimited fruits and flowers. Lord Nityananda Himself forms the topmost, main branch of this tree, and in the next chapter (Madhya 11) Krishnadas Kaviraja describes this branch and some of its sub-branches. Some branches and sub-branches are considered especially important but all are totally spiritual and full of potency. Each branch is connected to the Complete Whole, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, through the mercy of at least one of His nitya-siddha associates.

“Each and every branch of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s tree has unlimited spiritual power and glory. Even if one had thousands of mouths, it would be impossible to describe the limits of their activities.” (Cc. Madhya 10.162)

Many of Lord Chaitanya’s personal associates are capable of liberating fallen conditioned souls simply by glancing at them or touching them. Lord Nityananda was such a great personality that by His desire even the most wretchedly fallen souls were liberated immediately– by His sweet will alone. In this connection Srila Prabhupada comments that it is by Lord Chaitanya’s mercy that so many western people have been able to take up the mission of Krishna consciousness. Because Srila Prabhupada received the full blessings of Lord Nityananda and Lord Chaitanya, he was able to spread the sankirtana mission worldwide, in this most fallen age, within 11 years.

Some nitya-siddha devotees of Lord Chaitanya are considered most important and most merciful. Srila Vasudeva Datta, the nineteenth branch of the “Chaitanya Tree”, is one these great personalities. Krishnadas Kaviraja concludes, “One could not describe his qualities even with thousands of mouths.” (Cc. Madhya 10.41) Srila Prabhupada confirms Vasudeva Datta’s glories as follows: “He was the most exalted personality to ever show mercy to the conditioned souls. This in not an exaggeration of his transcendental qualities. It is perfectly true. Actually there cannot be any comparison to Vasudeva Datta… The entire world is purified simply by the appearance of such a great devotee. Indeed, by his transcendental presence the whole world is glorified and all conditioned souls are also glorified.” (Cc. Madhya 15.163, Purport)

Some personal stories about Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Maharaj

February 10, 2012 in Articles by Nityananda Rama dasa

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Maharaj

691209DB.LA                    Lectures                  240564/530501

When  he was a child two, three years old, he ate one mango fruit

which was kept for offering to the Deity. So his father  mildly rebuked

him, “Oh, you have done a very wrong thing. It was meant  for Deity,

and you have taken it. You should not have done it.” The  child was two

or three years old. He took it so seriously that never  after that he

took mango. Whenever we offered him mango he said, “No, I  am offender.

I cannot take mango.” He was thinking like that,  you see. Never in his

life he took a mango. He was thinking that “I offended in  my childhood

by taking the mango of the Deity.” This is the  characteristic of

acarya. They teach by their life’s action that one  should be so much

determined, that one should not be… A child took the  mango, there

was no offense. But he took that vow.
