What follows is our continuing reading and summarizing   some of the nectar contained with Prabhupadas SB classes.. It is an  11   Volume set and we are not starting Vol 8

Hare Krsna

Damaghosa das

——————-

SB classes Vol 7–part one of   two–

below are a few tidbits of nectar…..

1. Highest standard of material achievement is   brahminical life-but that is still

an infected state

2.Nigama kalpa taru-the Vedas are desire trees of   wisdom

3.If you go to Krsnaloka and bring some touchstone-then   touch it to the Tata

factory ,turn all his iron to gold

4.Without Adhoksaja Krsna, material life is   purposeless-life after life

5.Mayavadis say its all one-the lila of  Brahman-   so a pig eating stool, is Gods lila !

6.Iccha dvesha-desire and hate-these two things   perpetually keep us in samsara

7.Gauda desa and Dravida desa-origin of Gaudiya   sampradaya explained

8. So whole world is nirvisesa-sunyavadi. Some of them are   advocates of zero. There are

many big, big philosophers writing on zero. They   believe in zero, but

they write volumes of books. Why you are wasting time   writing volumes

of books on zero? After all, if you are going to be   zero, remain zero.

So zero means disgust.

9.. If   we understand Krsna, then we must   understand also how Krsna’s different energies  are

working. That is called tattvatah.

10. And much more

741213SB.BOM                      Lectures

So   the prakrta-guna. So long we are in this material world,

infected by the material qualities, sattva-guna,   rajo-guna, tamo-guna,

that is prakrta life, not aprakrta. You have to go step   by step. So

our Krsna consciousness is adhoksaja, far beyond this   prakrta

knowledge, prakrta-guna. The highest position of   prakrta or material

life is the standard of brahminical qualities. But that   is also

prakrta. That is not aprakrta. That is also not the   Brahman

realization. Brahma janatiti brahmanah. That is also   the highest stage

of prakrta, glimpse of the light. But one has to become   free from the

prakrta envelopment. Prakrta-gunaih. Our   present position is we are

infected by the prakrta-guna. Some of   them are infected by the

sattva-guna; some of them are infected by the   rajo-guna; some of them

are infected by tamo-guna. So long one is infected by   the tamo-guna

and rajo-guna, his position is very abominable,   rajas-tamas. One has

to become at least on the sattva-guna, the brahminical   qualification.

Then spiritual knowledge can be realized,   prakrta-guna.

741213SB.BOM                      Lectures

“I’m Indian,” “I’m this,” “I’m that.” These are all   prakrti. Prakrti,

material qualifications. Even if you are perfect   brahmana, that is

also material qualification. But in the platform of   pure brahmana you

can have the chance of understanding the aprakrta,   adhoksaja.

Therefore you have to become brahmana, qualified   brahmana. Then there

is chance.

So   in this age it is very difficult to become exactly Vedic

brahmana. That’s very, very difficult because everyone   has become

sudra. Kalau sudra-sambhavah. In the Kali-yuga you   cannot find out

exactly a qualified brahmana. Very rare, very rare.   Therefore Vedic

brahmana is not possible. It is… Our   movement, Krsna consciousness

movement, is creating pancaratriki-vidhi.   Pancaratriki-vidhi-brahmana

means there is no evidence of, there is no certainty   whether one is

brahmana or son of brahmana because so many things are   lacking…

741214SB.BOM                      Lectures                     222222/530501

and the whole Vedic literature is meant for achieving   the highest

perfection of life. Vedic literature, you will get all   kinds of

knowledge. Veda means knowledge, and the Vedic   literature is full of

knowledge. Nigama-kalpa-taru. Nigama means Vedic   knowledge and

kalpa-taru means the tree from where you can get   anything you desire.

Whatever you desire. Generally we have got experience   that a mango

tree, if you desire mango, you can get from the mango   tree. If you

desire coconut, then you can get from the coconut tree.   But you cannot

get coconut from the mango tree, and mango from the   coconut tree. But

there are trees where you go, you can get both mango,   and banana, and

coconut, and everything you like. That is called   kalpa-vrksa. We have

no experience in this material world, but there is a   tree. That is not

in this material world, that is in the spiritual   world.

Cintamani-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vrksa-laksavrtesu   surabhir

abhipalayantam. So we have to take knowledge from   Vedic, Vedic

scripture. Then the description of the spiritual world   is there, what

is that? Cintamani-prakara-sadmasu. They have got   houses, they are

made of touchstone. Here it is made of bricks and   stone, ordinary

stone. But there is another stone which is called   touchstone. If you

touch it with the iron, the iron becomes gold. That is   called

touchstone, paresapatha (?). So the spiritual world,   all the houses

are made of this touchstone. You can take the   Tata iron factory and

touch it there. (laughter) It will be very   profitable. (laughter) Yes.

Or go there and bring some touchstone as these moon   exploiters. They

go and they have brought some stone, and some sand.    But if you go to

Krsnaloka you can bring some touchstone and make the   whole Tata iron

factory gold. (laughter) These informations are there.   If you have got

capacity, then you will go and bring   it.

Laksavrtesu surabhir, and surabhir abhipalayantam. There Krsna   is

very fond of cows. There is Krsna’s another name is   Gopala. Gopala

means who tends cows. Go means cow and pala means one   who tends.

Therefore Krsna’s another name is Gopala. Govinda.    Govinda means one

who gives pleasure to the cows or Govinda means one who   gives pleasure

to the senses. So Krsna’s name are   different.

Cintamani-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vrksa laksavrtesu   surabhir

abhipalayantam. There Krsna is tending this surabhi.   Surabhi cow

means, that is also wonderful, spiritual. You can milk   cow, milk from

the cows, as many times as you like. Just like here in   the, we have

got experience, we can take milk from the cows   morning and evening,

not more than that. But there you can milk the cows   whenever you like,

and you can draw milk as much as you like. That is   called surabhi cow.

The trees are like that, the cows are like that, but   there are houses,

there are forests, jungle trees, cows, water,   everything, but they are

all spiritual. All spiritual, therefore there is one.   Here is also

one, because everything material. Whatever, either   you take cow’s body

or your body, or tree’s body, or any body, what it is   made of? Ksitir

ap teja marut vyoma, the earth, water, air, fire, and   sky, that’s all.

Here it is all one, but, and there also it is one, but   there it is all

spiritual, and here it is all material. That is the   difference.

That spiritual and material, what is the difference? The   material

is dull, and spiritual is consciousness. That is the   difference. How

the tree gives you, a mango tree there gives you a   coconut? Because it

is conscious. Suppose if I ask from you, because you   are a conscious

being, that “Give me some coconut.” You can give me.   “Give me some

mango.” You can give. But when you are out of this   body, then I ask

the body, “Give me some milk or cow or…,” no   response. This is

material and spiritual. Nityo nityanam cetanas   cetananam. So jnanam,

real knowledge is that, when we understand that I am   spiritual being,

I am not this material, and I, my country, that is   spiritual world.

That is my place. That is jnanam, self-realization.   Atma-darsanam,

atma-darsanam. Suppose a foreigner is in America, an   Indian is in

America, or an American is in India, so he is conscious   that “I am

American,” or “I do not belong to this country.” Or   Indian when he

goes to America, he knows, “I am Indian. I do not   belong to this

country.” Similarly when you realize, when you   understand that you do

not belong to this material world, you belong to the   spiritual world,

that is self-realization

741215SB.BOM                      Lectures

matter… That is called jada-prakrti–bhumi, earth,   water, fire, air,

sky, mind, intelligence and ego. These are all   jada-prakrti, material.

Sometimes it is misunderstood, “Mind is spiritual.” No,   mind is

material. Intelligence, that is also material.    And this false ego with

designation, that is, “I am Indian,” “I am American,”   “I am brahmana,”

“I am ksatriya,” so many desig…, “I am cat,” “I am   dog,” “I am human

being,” this is also material conception. I am neither   dog, neither

cat, neither demigod, nor human being. I am atma. Aham   brahmasmi.

741218SB.BOM                      Lectures

Now, if actually a philosophical minded man is there, if he   simply

makes research, “Wherefrom this nice taste came in the   water?” he can

see God because ultimately he has to come to God.    If he researches,

make research, “Wherefrom the sunshine came…?” You   can say the

sunshine is coming from the sun globe, but for further   research work,

you cannot go even there. But if you are actually   student,

philosophical minded, if you make darsana… Philosophy   means darsana.

Darsana means seeing. See more, see more, see   more. In this way you

will ultimately come. Isvarah paramah… Then he will   come to this

conclusion: bahunam janmanam ante jnanavan mam   prapadyate. If you are

actually serious student, research worker, then after   executing

research work for many, many birth, when you are   actually wise,

jnanavan, then you will surrender to Krsna. Vasudevah   sarvam iti sa

mahatma sudurlabhah.

741218SB.BOM                   Lectures

So   the Vyasadeva recommended, or Suta Gosvami said, anartha

upasamam saksad bhakti-yogam adhoksaje. If you want to   get out of this

anartham, unwanted and purposeless life of material   existence… That

one should first of all understand, that this material   existence is

anartham. Anartham means purposeless life. There is no   purpose. Real

purpose should be how to get out of the spell of   material nature. That

is real purpose. They do not know. They do not   know. They are taking

very seriously some temporary purpose of life, which   will be changed

with the change of body. Now, as human being, I am   manufacturing so

many purposes of life, but as soon as the body is   changed and I get

the body of a cat or dog or tree, the whole purpose is   changed.

Therefore it is purposeless life, anartham.   There is no meaning of

this purpose. Because everything will be changed with   the change of

your body. Therefore they do not… They shudder to   think of, that “We

have got next life.” They therefore deny, “No, there is   no next life.

This life is finished.” A foolish life. That is   not.

So   anartha upa… In order to get out of this anartham,   purposeless

life, anartha upasamam… Upasamam means curbing down   or finish it,

upasamam, finishing. Anartha upasamam saksad   bhakti-yogam adhoksaje.

The… If you want to be free from this purposeless,   useless life,

then you have to engage yourself in the bhakti-yogam   adhoksaje, to the

Supreme. Anartha upasamam saksad bhakti-yogam.   Saksat, directly. You

may have many other means to become free from this   useless,

purposeless life. There may be karma, jnana, yoga. But   that is

indirect. That is not actually factual. Suppose a poor   man is trying

to get out of this condition, poor condition. He   becomes a rich man.

So that is also purposeless. From poor man to become   rich man, it is

also purposeless. Because today you are rich man; again   you will

become poor man. Punah punas carvita-carvananam,   chewing the chewed,

sometimes poor man, sometimes… Practically we see a   man in our

presence. He was very poor man; he became rich man. And   again his

everything, business, failed. He again became a poor   man. So this kind

of poor man, rich man, sometimes Brahma, sometimes ant,   sometimes

cats, dogs–this is all purposeless life. Purpose…   Real life is

eternal blissful life, sac-cid-ananda-vigraha. That   should be our aim

of life.

So   if you want that life and if you want to get free from this

purposeless life, anartha upasamam saksad bhakti-yogam   adhoksaje, then

you have to take to bhakti-yogam, transcendental loving   service to the

Lord. That is called bhakti-yogam. People do not know.

741219SB.BOM                      Lectures

So   we are conditioned soul, but the Supersoul… The   Mayavadi

philosophers, they do not admit the existence of   Supersoul. They think

there is one soul. We are… They speak of our   conditioned life as

lila. This is not very good philosophy. One has   got the body of a hog,

and he is eating stool, and the Mayavadi philosopher   says that it is

lila. God is eating stool; it is lila. Just see the   philosophy!

Because we say krsna-lila… Krsna, the Supreme   Personality of

Godhead, He is dancing with the gopis or playing with   the cowherds boy

or becoming the child of mother Yasoda. We say it is   lila. The

Mayavadi philosopher says… Because they do not two,   make two. Their

philosophy is one. So the pig or the hog eating the   stool, they say it

is also lila. Krsna is dancing with the gopis, that is   also lila, and

741220SB.BOM                      Lectures

Krsna, this dvesa, two things combined… Iccha-dvesa   samutthena sarge

yanti parantapa. They cannot… Just like I will   give you very small

example: just like the criminals. The criminals,   they have got two

things: iccha, dvesa. Dvesa: “Why shall I abide by the   government law?

I can do anything, what I like.” This is dvesa. And   iccha means, “I

shall work independently, without the law.”   So just like this

iccha-dvesa, the result is they are put into the   jail. On account of

these two things–iccha, that “I shall live   independently without the

control of the government. Whatever I like, I shall   do,” this iccha,

and dvesa, “I don’t like to carry out the orders of   law,” dvesa–this

is very nice example–the result is that he will be   arrested, and he

will be put into the jail.

So it is exactly like that. We are in this material world   on

account of this iccha and dvesa. We wanted to satisfy   the senses,

material senses, independently. And we wanted to   disobey the orders of

the Supreme Lord. These are the two causes for which we   are put into

this material world. So we have to rectify this   mentality, that “I am

independent. I am God. I can do whatever we like.” This   mentality has

to be rectified. For that rectification we are   in this material world,

and we are undergoing different types of miserable   condition of life

741220SB.BOM                      Lectures

This should be our endeavor. Don’t try to elevate   yourself

materially. That will not make you happy. Just try to   get out of these

material clutches and begin your spiritual life.   That will make you

happy. That is the only source of happiness. Otherwise   it is not. The

same example, that if you are put into the ocean,   you may be very good

swimmer–it will be great struggle. You can keep   yourself floating,

but that is not happiness. Happiness is different   thing. If you want

happiness, then you have to give up the association of   prakrti.

Karanam guna-sango ‘sya. Because as so long you will be   in the

material world, you will have to associate with some of   the modes of

material nature, sattva-guna, rajo-guna, tamo-guna. By   association

with the sattva-guna material modes of nature, urdhvam   gacchanti

sattva-sthah, you can be elevated to the higher   planetary system, or

by jaghanya-guna-vrtti-stha adho gacchanti tamasah, by   associate in

the tamo-guna, you will be put downwards either in the   animal forms of

life or lower planetary system. In this way you are   wandering up and

down. Give up this business. Krsna says, “Surrender   unto Me.” You

surrender to Krsna and be   happy.

741221SB.BOM                      Lectures

So   Devahuti wants elucidation of the characteristics of purusa   and

prakrti. So purusa is one, but prakrti, there are   many, energies.

Prakrti, energy. Just like we have got practical   experience that

husband and wife, the wife is supposed to be the   energy. The husband

works day and night very hard, but when he comes home,   the wife gives

him comfort, eating, sleeping, mating, in so many ways.    He gets fresh

energy. Especially the karmis, they get energy by the   behavior and

service of the wife. Otherwise the karmis cannot   work. Anyway, the

energy principle is there.

741221SB.BOM                      Lectures

dharmasya glanir bhavati. What is that dharma? That   dharma is not this

dharma, Hindu dharma, Mussulman dharma. No. That dharma   is

sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja.   That’s… So in this

way, our position, although we are both in this   material world, one is

the controller; one is the controlled. And the one who   is controlled

by the prakrti, by the material nature, if he accepts   to be controlled

by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then his   controlling by the

material nature upon him, that is finished, no more   control. Mam eva

ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te. This is   perfection of life. At

the present moment we are being controlled every   second, every step.

Padam padam yad vipadam. Every step there is danger.   This control

means punishment. You cannot expect very good treatment   in the prison

life. So this is prison life, conditioned life. So you   cannot expect

any good treatment by the material nature because her   business is to

punish us. That is the business so that we can   enquire that “Why I am

being punished?” That is required. That “why”   philosophy is very

important. That is the beginning of human life. But we   are so dull, in

spite of being kicked every moment by material nature,   that “why”

question is not coming, so dull-headed. And we are   advanced in

designation.

741222SB.BOM                      Lectures

“Out of many persons, they are trying for   self-realization, siddhi.”

That is called siddhi. “And out of many thousands and   millions of

siddhas”–siddhas means one who is self-realized; they   are called

siddhas–“out of them, one may know what is Krsna.”    So Krsna cannot be

known by ordinary human being. One must be first of all   siddha; then,

out of the siddhas, the most topmost siddha, he can   understand what is

Krsna.

741222SB.BOM                      Lectures

I   have given several times this example: Just like the   sunshine,

the sun globe, and the sun-god, Narayana, within the   sun globe, that

is one thing. One thing means that Narayana within   the sun globe, his

bodily effulgence is so glowing and bright. This is   called sun’s

blazing effulgence. So the sunshine is also   expansion of that glowing

effulgence. So they are one thing. Just like   fire. Fire, direct fire,

temperature, and just outside the fire, temperature,   and the heat of

the fire outside–although they are one, but the   temperature

different. Similarly, the sun-god and the sun globe and   the sunshine,

they are one, but different temperature. So one who   knows this… That

means one who knows that the Brahman effulgence is just   like the

sunshine outside, and the Paramatma feature is the   expansion of the

Supreme Lord everywhere. Andantara-stha-paramanu. He is   everywhere,

741222SB.BOM                      Lectures

So we belong to the Gaudiya-sampradaya. Gaudiya means,   Gaudiya…

Gauda-desa is called Bengal. There are panca-gauda.   Punjab is also

called Gauda-desa. There are five gauda and five   dravida. In southern

India, they are called dravida, and in the north India,   they are

called gauda-desa. So Gauda, Bengal is also Gauda, and   the Vaisnavas

belonging to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s cult, they are   called

Gaudiya-Vaisnava, Bengali Vaisnava. So Caitanya   Mahaprabhu happened to

be a Bengali, but He belonged to the Madhva-sampradaya.   His guru was

Isvara Puri, and his guru, Isvara Puri’s guru, was   Madhavendra Puri.

And Madhavendra Puri belonged to   Madhvacarya-sampradaya. The Gopala,

the Nathadvara Gopala, that belonged to… Originally   it was owned by

Madhavendra Puri. Then it was delivered, the Deity was   delivered, to

the Visnusvami-sampradaya.

741222SB.BOM                      Lectures                     222523/530501

So   that self-realization is not very difficult. But it requires   a

little fortune and intelligence. Aham brahmasmi.   These big, big

saintly person, they are undergoing severe penances and   austerities to

understand aham brahmasmi. But if you believe in the   Bhagavad-gita

statement, Krsna says, mamaivamso jiva-bhutah: “The   living entities

are My part and parcel.” So if Krsna is Parabrahman…   Param brahma

param dhama pavitram paramam bhavan. This is accepted   by Arjuna when

he heard Bhagavad-gita. At the end, he is accepting,   “Krsna, You are

Parabrahman.” So if we are part and parcel of   Parabrahman, then we

must be Brahman. Where is the difficulty? So this   brahmaham,

brahmasmi, this Brahman realization, can be understood   in a moment if

you believe Bhagavad-gita as it is. But if you   foolishly interpret in

this way and that way, then it will take millions of   years. You will

not understand what is Bhagavad-gita, what is God, what   is… But if

you take it as it is, then immediately you can   understand that you are

Brahman. There is no difficulty.

Prakrter guna-samyasya nirvisesasya. Guna-samya. When the   three

modes of material nature is not agitated, it is in the   neutral stage,

guna-samya. The guna-samya… The Buddha philosophy   is… The highest

goal is guna-samya, where there is no manifestation by   the agitation

of the gunas. That is their ultimate goal,   guna-samya, nirvana. On

account of agitation of the three gunas, these   manifestations are

there, and that is called visesa. Visesa means   varieties. And

nirvisesa or nirvana–practically the same thing:   “Finish these

varieties and again become nirvisesa, no variety,   neutral stage.” That

is the highest perfection of Buddha philosophy,   nirvisesa-sunyavadi.

There are two kinds of atheistic philosophers. One is   nirvisesa, and

the other is sunyavadi. So my students, therefore,   they address,

nirvisesa-sunyavadi-pascatya-desa-tarine. So   whole world is

nirvisesa-sunyavadi. Some of them are advocates of   zero. There are

many big, big philosophers writing on zero. They   believe in zero, but

they write volumes of books. Why you are wasting time   writing volumes

of books on zero? After all, if you are going to be   zero, remain zero.

So zero means disgust.

741226SB.BOM                      Lectures                     222639/530501

So   when Krsna comes in touch with prakrti for giving birth of   these

varieties of forms of life, that is Siva. That is Siva.    Siva is not

different from Krsna, but still, Siva is not Krsna.   This is called

inconceivable one and different. Inconceivable   one and different. The

example is given: just like milk and yogurt, dahi. Dahi   is not

different from milk. It is milk–it is milk, everyone   knows–but it is

not milk at the same time. You cannot get the benefit   of milk by

drinking dahi, or yogurt. Milk is used for different   purpose, and dahi

is different purpose. When you take too much milk, you   get dysentery,

and if you go to the physician, he gives you some   medicine to take

with yogurt, dahi. So dahi or yogurt, is not different   from milk, but

it is not milk. Similarly, all these demigods,   especially Lord Siva,

Lord Brahma… They are the original chief demigods   from Visnu.

So   these demigods or even we… We are also the same principle,   the

living entities. Brahma is also in the category of   living entities,

and Lord Siva is between the living entities and the   Supreme Lord, in

between. Therefore you cannot keep Lord Siva as living   entity

category, neither Visnu category. Via media. Ksiram   yatha dadhi

vikara-visesa-yogat. The Supreme Personality of   Godhead does not come

directly in touch with this prakrti, but the form by   which He touches

this prakrti, that is Lord Siva. Therefore Lord Siva is   not different

from the Supreme Personality of Godhead; at the same   time, he is not

the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is the   conclusion. So that

cesta… Cesta yatah sa bhagavan. Therefore Lord Siva’s   another name

is Kala-bhairava. Kala-bhairava. And he is the master   of the

annihilation. When this whole material creation will be   required to be

destroyed, it will be done by Lord Siva. It is created   by Lord Brahma,

it is maintained by Lord Visnu, and when it will be   destroyed, it will

be done by Lord Siva. Therefore there are three   original demigods. So

Kala-bhairava, cesta yatah sa bhagavan kala ity   upalaksitah. So kala,

time factor, is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It   is above these

twenty-four ingredients of material elements. It is in   between the

spiritual element and the material element, via media,   that kala. This

is the description of kala.

741228SB.BOM                      Lectures

So   this position is going on, beginning from one date of   creation,

millennium, and goes up to the end, kalpanta. The   asuric determination

is kalpanta. Up to the end of the creation they have no   sense that

“Again I am going to in the oblivion. Again I am to   remain for

millions of years in darkness. Then again there   will be creation. And

again I shall get body.” And in one millennium we   are changing so many

bodies. This is our problem. But there is no   education; there is no

knowledge. But we find this education, this knowledge,   from Vedic

literature. Therefore Krsna comes Himself, He teaches   Himself

Bhagavad-gita personally, and He asks, mudha,   sarva-dharman parityajya

mam ekam saranam vraja, but still, we are so dull,   we cannot take His

words, take His instruction, and bhutva bhutva   praliyate, and going

on, one after another, birth and death. This is   going on.

741230SB.BOM                      Lectures

If we take this assurance from Krsna, then there is   santi. Otherwise

there is no santi. That is called sattva-gunam   svaccham. “So I am

taking to this worship of Deity, but at the same time   let me have

something privately so that in case of my distress, if   Krsna fails to

help me, this money will help me.” That is not   svaccham. Svaccham

means clear. That is not… Therefore Caitanya   Mahaprabhu advises,

                  niskincanasya bhagavad-bhajanonmukhasya

                   param param jigamisor bhava-sagarasya

                   sandarsanam visayinam atha yositam ca

ha hanta hanta visa-bhaksanato ‘py asadhu

So we, of course, we are not so advanced, but we have   got many

examples of advanced devotees. Still there are in   India. You will find

in Vrndavana and other places. Actually, they have no   means–simply

depending. They take their bath in the Yamuna and sit   down and chant

Hare Krsna. There are still such devotees. But   everything is going on.

So that is santa, completely depending on God. That is   the highest

stage of devotional life. Vasudevah   sarvam iti sa mahatma sudurlabhah.

There are many stories and many incidences. And that’s   a fact, that,

as it is said by Bhagavan,

                          bhoktaram yajna-tapasam

                           sarva-loka-mahesvaram

                           suhrdam sarva-bhutanam

Suhrdam sarva-bhutanam. He is well-wisher, friend, of   everyone.

Suhrdam sarva-bhutanam jnatva mam santim rcchati. If   we actually

believe in Vasudeva, Krsna, that “He is friend of   everyone. And why He

is not my friend?” Everyone means I am included also.   So this kind of

faith, when there is this faith, then bhagavad-bhakti   begins. When we

take up this instruction of Krsna very   seriously,

                          sarva-dharman parityajya

                          mam ekam saranam vraja

                            vasudevah sarvam iti

                           sa mahatma sudurlabhah

This is the beginning of mahatma. Sa mahatma   sudurlabhah.

….      So these books are there to remind us: ataeva krsna   veda-purana

padila. Because we have forgotten Krsna, because we   have forgotten God

on account of restless mind, so we have to make it   santa, calm and

peaceful. Without becoming calm and peaceful, you   cannot understand

what is God. Ceta etair anaviddham sthitam   sattve prasidati. When our

heart will be no more attacked by the sattva-guna and   rajo-guna, we

come into the platform…, er, rajo-guna and   tamo-guna…

Nasta-prayesu abhadresu nityam bhagavata-sevaya. This   class is held

for understanding Srimad-Bhagavatam. Why? Just to   cleanse the heart.

Ceto-darpana-marjanam. Nityam bhagavata-sevaya. Not   that we are almost

free from all the contamination, but even little washed   away… It

begins immediately. As soon as you begin hearing and   chanting of these

literatures or chanting Hare Krsna mantra, immediately   the cleansing

method begins. And nasta-prayesu abhadresu. Almost   cleansed, not that

properly, cent percent clean. Nasta-prayesu abhadresu   nityam

bhagavata-sevaya. Daily. Not this Bhagavata-saptaha,   official. No.

Nityam. There is no such thing as   Bhagavata-saptaha in any Vedic

literature. This is another manufacture, concoction.   The Bhagavata

says, nityam bhagavata-sevaya: “You have to twenty-four   hours engaged

in bhagavata, in the service of bhagavata, the person   bhagavata or the

book Bhagavata.” Bhagavata, there are two kinds of   bhagavata. Person

bhagavata is the spiritual master, and the book   Bhagavata. So there is

no difference, because the person bhagavata advises you   read

Bhagavata. And by reading Bhagavata, you understand   what is Bhagavan,

what is spiritual   master.

      So in this way,

                          nasta-prayesv abhadresu

                          nityam bhagavata-sevaya

                           bhagavaty uttama-sloke

                         bhaktir   bhavati naisthiki

This is   the process to make the heart cleansed and gradually attain

the perfection of complete peacefulness. And that   complete

peacefulness is the stage for understanding the Supreme   Personality of

Godhead.

      Thank you very much. (end)

750101SB.BOM                      Lectures

also independence, not that because one is servant, he   has no

independence. He has got independence. If he likes, he   can give up the

service of the master and live independently. This is   crude example.

Similarly, our material contamination means that,   when we desire to

live without Krsna consciousness: “Why we shall be   subservient to

Krsna? We shall live independently…” That is going   on.

Material life means everyone is trying to become victorious in   the

struggle of existence without God consciousness. That   is our material

disease. Krsna-bahirmukha hana bhoga vancha   kare. We may revolt. That

independence we have got, little independence, and we   can misuse it,

that “Why shall I serve Krsna? Let me serve myself.”   “Let me serve

myself” means “Let me serve my different propensities,   kama, krodha,

lobha, moha, matsarya,” like that. My independence   means “I will not

serve God; I will serve my lusty desires.” You cannot   become

independent. This is a concoction only, that “I will   not serve Krsna.”

But you have to serve. What is that? “Then I serve   my lusty desires.”

Indriya-trpti, indriya-trpti. Yad indriya-pritaye.   Simply to…

….      Therefore in the Guru-stotra in the morning we recite, ar na   koriho

mane asa. Is it not? What is that?

Devotee: Ar na koriho mane asa.

Prabhupada: Ar na koriho mane asa. So that is   required.

Guru-mukha-padma-vakya…?

Devotee: Cittete koriya aikya.

Prabhupada: Cittete koriya aikya, ar na koriho mane   asa. That is

liberation. Otherwise we shall be implicated. And what   guru says? Guru

says the same thing as Krsna says. That is guru.   Krsna says,

sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja. Krsna   also… Guru

also says the same thing. That is guru’s business, that   “You surrender

to Krsna and fully be engaged in Krsna’s service.” So   therefore

Narottama dasa Thakura advises, “Take this very   seriously.” Ar na

koriho mane asa: “No more. Stop any other desires.”   Then your life is

successful. Ar na koriho mane asa.

750103SB.BOM                      Lectures                     222906/530501

is called ghora. Santa-ghora. If you go to some   industrial place in a

factory, iron factory like Tata’s, you will see how   they are engaged

in ghora activities, horrible activities–after   all, you have to eat

something–but they have planned a ghora activity,   very fierceful,

ugra-karma. By nature’s way, Krsna has given us   everything. You can

simply work little. You get food grains. Krsna says   like that. Krsna

never says that “You open big, big fierceful, horrible   industries.”

You will never find in Bhagavad-gita. For your   livelihood, Krsna says

very simple method. Annad bhavanti bhutani. Annad.   Anna, you produce

anna. Why you are planning big, big industries? The oil   will come from

America through the channel, and the Arabia will refuse   to supply oil.

There will be power problem, so many things, one after   another, one

after another. But Krsna does not say that do all these   things, ghora.

No. He says, annad bhavanti bhutani: “You just produce   food grain.”

And bhavanti bhutani. Bhutani means all living   entities, they will be

stout and strong by eating. What you want more?   Annad bhavanti bhutani

parjanyad anna-sambhavah. And if there is sufficient   rain, then

automatically, then it will be very easy to grow food   grains.

Parjanyad anna… If there is no parjanya, rain,   then your so-called

tractor will not help you, or knowledge,   agricultural knowledge, will

not help you. You will have to depend on Krsna for   rains. Parjanyad

anna-sambhavah. And yajnad bhavati parjanyah. If you   perform yajna,

then there will be regular   rainfalls.

In   the Kali-yuga there is no yajna. Therefore there is  anavrsti,

anavrsti. The Kali-yuga people will forget   performing yajna. They will

be busy in ghora-rupa activities, horrible and   fierceful activities,

not yajna. They will neglect yajna. So then how your   these bolts and

nuts and rubber tires will help you? Therefore there is   scarcity of

anna. That will increase more and more. It will so   increase that now

you are getting anna by paying high price, but time   will come when

even if you are prepared to pay price, there will be no   more anna.

That time is coming. Naturally, what people will   eat? They will eat

mamsa and roots and seeds. No milk. No sugar. No wheat.   These things

will be stopped. As we are becoming entangled in   ghora-rupa activities

or mudha activities, then the more we shall be   entangled with

sufferings of material existence. They do not know what   is the

actually interest. Na te viduh svartha-gatim hi   visnum.

So   therefore this planning, real planning, is this

varnasrama-dharma. Varnasrama means a regulative,   regulative life. So

we have come to this world. There will be no difficulty   for our

maintenance. Peacefully let us live and save time   for spiritual

consciousness, for advancement of.

…Either you become santa or ghora or mudha, three kinds   of position in

this material world… santa. Santa means in the   brahminical

qualification, and ghora means activities, material   activities,

fruitive activities, and mudha, just like animal,   neither santa nor

ghora, simply animal. Udaram bharitah. Svartham   udaram bharitah.

Svartham, interest, means if one somehow or other   fulfills his belly,

then he thinks, “Now all my mission is fulfilled.” This   is called

mudhatvam. Svartham udaram bharitah. Daksyam   kutumba-bharanam.

Generally in this age, people will be interested to   fulfill his own

belly. Because that is also very difficult task   nowadays. To get

sufficient food daily, that is also a problem. And if   one can maintain

his family in these hard days–family means husband,   wife, and a few

children–then daksyam kutumba-bharanam, then he is   just like Maharaja

Daksa. Daksa, daksa means very expert. Those who   are maintaining big

family, working very nicely, many business, they are   called daksa. So

in the Kali-yuga, if one can maintain a family, small   family, then he

will be considered daksa. Daksyam kutumba-bharanam.   Otherwise, if one

can fulfill his belly only, his all interest is   fulfilled. This will

be the condition of this age. That means mudhatvam,   mostly mudhatvam.

They do not know. Na te viduh svartha-gatim hi   visnum.

So   this is the position, mudhatvam, at least in this age. Rajas

tamas. Mudhatvam, some of them are busy in ghora   activities, and some

of them are mudhas. Generally, they are mudhas. The   so-called active

persons, they are also mudhas. That is described in the   Bhagavad-gita.

Na mam prapadyante mudhah duskrtino naradhamah. So   unless you come to

Krsna consciousness, unless you become a pure devotee   of Krsna, then

our life is unsuccessful. It has begun since we have   come to this

material world. Under different influence, we have   come to this

condition of santa, ghora, mudha. But we have to   become above this

condition–even above this santa condition.    This conception that “I

have become now brahminically qualified. I have got   knowledge. I can

see things,” jnanam vijnanam astikyam, that is not   sufficient. You

have to stop your birth and death. This process you   have to stop. Then

your life is successful.

And   that can be easily done if you become Krsna conscious. Bhaja

vasudevam. You have to become devotee of Vasudeva.   Vasudeve bhagavati

bhakti-yogah prayojitah. You have to take the shelter   of bhakti-yoga,

Vasudeva. Then your life will be successful. Sa mahatma   sudurlabhah.

Vasudevah sarvam iti sa mahatma. You have to become   sudurlabhah

mahatma, not cheap mahatma. A cheap mahatma will not   help you. You

have to become real mahatma. What is real mahatma?   Mahatmanas tu mam

partha daivim prakrtim asritah, bhajanty   ananya-manasah. That is

mahatma.

      Thank you very much. (end)

750104SB.BOM                      Lectures

is sankalpa and vikalpa. Sankalpa means decide to do   something, and

vikalpa means again to reject it. That is the business   of mind.

Everyone desires the peacefulness of mind, but the   material mind–the

nature is sankalpa and vikalpa, restlessness. You   cannot fix up.

So   if you can control the senses by the yogic, mystic yogic

process, this mechanical endeavor, how to control the   mind, then you

can again be placed in the original spiritual status.   That is the yoga

system. The yoga system is recommended to persons   whose mind is very

restless. Everyone’s mind is restless–not a particular   man mind is

restless. Everyone’s. But it is very difficult, also,   to bring the

mind into peaceful status. So long the desires are   there, it is not

possible to bring the mind in complete peace and   tranquillity. It is

not possible because the sankalpa-vikalpa…   Vartate-kama-sambhavah.

So long there is desire, so it is not possible to bring   the mind under

control. Therefore Caitanya-caritamrta says, Kaviraja   Gosvami, that

even the pious actors, those who are acting very   piously… Those who

are acting impiously, sinfully, there is no question of   peace of the

mind. That is not possible. Even those who are   acting very piously,

that is also not possible. You cannot control even the   mind in that

way. Then those who are desiring to stop these material   activities

completely, pious or impious, they also cannot   control the mind. And

then the yogis… The first group, who are interested   in pious

activities, they are karmis. And those who are neither   interested in

pious activities or impious activities–they want to   stop all kinds of

activities… Just like the Buddha philosophy says,   nirvana: “Stop the

activities of the mind or desires.” On that status   also, it is not

possible to control the mind, meditation. And…   These mukti-kami. And

then siddhi-kami, the yogis, they also cannot control   the mind, what

to speak of ordinary man who are neither interested in   pious

activities or in mukti or yogic   perfection?

…..      You cannot stop desire. That is not possible. The   kama-sambhavah…

Sankalpa-vikalpabhyam vartate kama-sambhavah. This is   the mind’s

position. I am desiring something, and if it is not   very palatable,

then I reject it. I accept another desire. This is.    You cannot keep

the mind vacant even for a single moment. Nobody has   got this

experience, that mind is vacant. If, by force, you are   trying to do

that, it is simply laboring. It is not possible. Just   like to

concentrate one’s mind in the vacant… Kleso   ‘dhikataras tesam

avyaktasakta-cetasam. Klesah, klesah adhikataras tesam.   Impersonal and

void. If you want to engage your mind in the   impersonality or voidness

of variegatedness, it is simply very, very   difficult. The best, easy

way of controlling the mind… Because Krsna has said   that yoginam api

sarvesam mad-gatenantar-atmana, antar-atmana,   sraddhavan bhajate yo

mam. This is the way. Anyone who is making plan, the   plan-making…

Kama-sambhavah means plan-making. You see the whole   world, the big,

big politicians. In our government, central government,   there is a

planning commission. Perhaps every one of you   know it, planning

commission. From, for the last twenty years they are   making simply

plans, and no plan has become successful. Every   plan (chuckling) is

unsuccessful, and the result is eight rupees kilo   rice, your staple

food. The plan has come successfully to bring   rice eight rupees per

kilo. That is not possible. So long the, you are   materially affected

and making plan how to get out of it, the material   nature is so strong

that it will baffle all your plans, and therefore you   will have to

remain perpetually restless. One plan you make, and it   is baffled by

the material nature, stringent laws of nature.   And at last, making

plan, making plan, making plan–one day the time comes   and immediately

orders, “Please vacate your presidency, your prime   ministership.”

Although I am trying to make plan, successful plans, up   to the point

of death… Pralayanta, pralayanta, asuric plan,   up to the end of

life… And then he entrusts. He says, “My dear son,   my dear daughter,

I could not fulfill this plan, so you do it. Now I hand   it over to

you.” And the son also going on, making plan, plan,   plan. It will

never be fulfilled.

That is the verdict of the sastra. Durasaya ye   bahir-artha-maninah.

Durasaya. It is impossible. Therefore this   sankalpa-vikalpa, accepting

some plan and rejecting again, this is going on   perpetually. It is

never fulfilled; neither it will be fulfilled at any   time. And for

making this plan, sankalpa-vikalpa, perpetually I am   giving up one

kind of body; I am accepting another body.

750106SB.BOM                      Lectures

So these things are taking place daily within the womb   of the

mother–how the child is developing from the day of   union of the

father and the mother, and, on the first day, it is   like a pealike

form by the semina of father and mother, and then   everything develops.

Different types of body, different types of   intelligence, different

types of brain–how it takes place? If it is simply   material, then all

children would have come out of the same quality. But   it does not so

come. Every child, baby born, has got everything   separate from the

others. How subtle laws of nature is working, we can   just imagine. It

is not possible to understand by our these material   senses even this

material formation of the body, what to speak of   spiritual

understanding.

….750106SB.BOM                      Lectures

also. Indriyanam adhisvaram. Yad vidur hy   aniruddha-akhyam hrsikanam

adhisvaram. Hrsika means the indriya, or the senses. So   actually we

have discussed already. We are simply under some   machine. Bhramayan

sarva-bhutani yantrarudhani. A machine is manufactured   immediately.

Just like your medical men. They also manufacture some   skeleton

according to the requirement of the patient. So this   body is

manufactured by the supervision of the Supreme   Personality of Godhead

and the ingredients given by material nature, and I   am put into the

machine. This is my position. As I desire to   enjoy… Actually, I

haven’t got to enjoy or reject anything. I am put   into a certain type

of machine, and I have to go or work. Actually, I do   not also work.

The work is also going on by different agents. I am   simply put into it

just to satisfy my desires as I wanted. Ye yatha   mam prapadyante tams

tathaiva bhajamy aham. Krsna is so kind that He has   given us the

chance of enjoying.

750108SB.BOM                      Lectures

scientist, physicist, but they cannot analyze the   subtle function that

is going on, creating things as they are. Superficially   we can see,

but how things are taking place, that can be described   in the Vedic

literatures, not any other book. Therefore it is   said, vidya

bhagavatavadhih: “One who has studied Srimad-Bhagavatam   thoroughly, he

has seen the end of knowledge.” And actually,   Srimad-Bhagavatam is the

commentary or explanation on the Vedanta-sutra.   Vyasadeva made

Vedanta-sutra, the ultimate knowledge, and he made his   comment also,

natural commentary. That is Srimad-Bhagavatam. At the   end of every

chapter of Srimad-Bhagavatam you will find,   brahma-sutrasya bhasya:

“It is the natural comment of Brahma-sutra.” So if we   study

Srimad-Bhagavatam very thoroughly and specifically from   a person

bhagavata, then our life is successful. Nityam   bhagavata-sevaya. That

is the instruction, nityam.

…   So   we are not aware what is the aim of life. So Krsna is very kind.

He therefore comes. He came just before the beginning   of this

Kali-yuga, the most fallen age, and left for us the   Bhagavad-gita. And

then, after Him, after His departure… It is said in   the

Srimad-Bhagavatam, “After departure of Krsna from   this planet to His

own abode, the principle of religion and knowledge,   where it is kept?”

So the answer is: “It is kept in the   Srimad-Bhagavatam.” Adhuna udita.

So Krsna is nondifferent from Bhagavad-gita as it is   spoken by Him

personally, and He is also represented by   Srimad-Bhagavatam, sound

representation. So we should take the advantage of   Bhagavad-gita and

Srimad-Bhagavatam. They are krsna-katha,   krsna-katha. Krsna-katha

means news or words about Krsna, or Krsna’s katha, the   words given by

Krsna. That is Bhagavad-gita, krsna-katha, Krsna’s   words. And

Srimad-Bhagavatam means words for Krsna. Both of them   are krsna-katha,

or krsna-upadesa, instruction by Krsna.

….Nitai: “It has been explained in the previous verses    that mind is the

product of ego in goodness and that the function of the   mind is

acceptance and rejection according to desire. But here   intelligence is

said to be the product of ego in passion. That is the   distinction

between mind and intelligence; mind is a product of   egoism in

goodness, and intelligence is a product of egoism in   passion. The

desire to accept something and reject something is a   very important

factor of the mind. Since the mind is a product   of the mode of

goodness, if it is fixed upon the Lord of the mind,   Aniruddha, then

the mind can be changed to Krsna   consciousness.”

Prabhupada: Yes, here is the secret of training   the mind. The whole

yoga system, astanga-yoga system–dhyana, dharana,   asana, pranayama,

like that–they are meant for only controlling the   mind. Mind is the

center of sensual activities. The purpose of   astanga-yoga is to train

up the mind because the mind is very restless. Arjuna,   five hundred

years ago, he also appreciated, the mind is very   restless. So he

declined to practice the hatha-yoga system.

750109SB.BOM                      Lectures

five thousand years ago or millions of years ago,   because Krsna first

spoke to Vivasvan. Imam vivasvate yogam proktavan aham   avyayam: “This

yoga system, I first of all explained to Vivasvan, the   sun-god.” That

means millions and millions of years. Later on,   again, He explained.

So He says that “That very old thing, again I am   explaining to you,

Arjuna. There is no   change.”

So   Bhagavad-gita, the lessons of Bhagavad-gita, cannot be   changed

by the whims of rascals. This is not possible.   Aham avyayam. Imam

vivasvate yogam proktavan aham avyayam. Avyayam.    This yoga is avyayam,

not that with the change of time, the meaning   would be changed. That

is not possible. The meaning would remain the same   thing. The millions

of years ago Krsna said, man-mana bhava mad-bhakto   mad-yaji mam

namaskuru. That does not mean that the meaning has   changed. “Because

it has become old, now I can change.” The   speaker can say that “When

Krsna says, man-mana bhava mad-bhaktah, so Krsna is   dead and gone. Now

I am incarnation of Krsna. You think of me.” This is   going on. This

rascaldom is going on. “Krsna is now dead and gone. Now   I am avatara.”

Then the answer is: “Then you will be dead and gone,   then somebody

will come.” Just like the meaning of “my head.” One   child, one boy,

was reading “my head,” and the teacher is explained, ”   ‘My head’ means

my head.” So the child thought teacher said… When he   explained the

meaning ” ‘My head,’ it is my head,” so the child   thought, “The

teacher says ‘my head.’ Therefore ‘my head’ means   teacher’s head.”

(laughter) Another person came: “No, no. It is not   teacher head. It is

‘my head.’ ” Then he thought brother’s head, then   father’s head. In

this way he became puzzled.

750111SB.BOM                      Lectures

everything is finished. But that is not the fact.    The fact is the

gross body is finished, but the subtle body–mind,   intelligence, and

ego–that remains with the soul. Na hanyate   hanyamane sarire. The…

Just like in dream we do not work with this gross body,   but we work in

dream with mind, intelligence and ego. We create   another atmosphere,

and in dream we see or we place ourself in a different   atmosphere,

although the gross body is resting on the bed. So this   we experience

every night, that because the gross body stops   working, it does not

mean the soul stops working. The soul works with his   mind,

intelligence and ego. So when this body becomes   incapable of working

further, then the mind, intelligence and ego carries me   to another

body, means another process of formation of the body   into the womb of

the mother, and when the body is formed and in working   capacity, even

as a child or baby, then the body comes out and the   living entity’s

another chapter of life begins. This is the process   of transmigration

of the soul.

750114SB.BOM                      Lectures

guru. Just like Ambarisa Maharaja. He is devotee. We   have to follow.

Sa vai manah krsna-padaravindayoh. The senses… The   mind is the chief

of the senses, and immediately under the mind, ten   senses are working,

ten: five knowledge-gathering senses, jnanendriya, and   five working

senses, karmendriya. And they have got different types   of

activities–hands, legs, tongue, ear, eyes. And above   these, there is

ahankara, false ego in the material world. The eleven   senses, and the

twelfth is the false ego. The false ego means I am   thinking, “I am

this body. I am body.” Then expansion of body: “I   belong to this

family”; “I am the husband of this body”; “I am the   father of this

body”; “I am the brother of this body.” Or “I belong to   this nation”;

“I belong to this species.” This is called twelfth   conception. It is

different consciousness according to different   body. And then “It is

mine.” With all these eleven senses, I form an idea of   “I” and then my

possession, “mine.” Aham mameti. Janasya moho ‘yam.   This is called

illusion, maya.

So   any system of yoga, either hatha-yoga, jnana-yoga, or…

Karma-yoga is in the lowest standard. And above all,   bhakti-yoga.

Then, when you come to the bhakti-yoga, that is the   perfection of

life. Bhakti-yogena manasi samyak pranihite   amale. Bhakti-yogena

amala: “The mind becomes cleansed.”   Ceto-darpana-marjanam. That is the

effect of…, direct effect of bhakti-yoga, because   the mind is now

contaminated, and under the creation of senses and   sense activities,

we are making millions and trillions of ideas and   become entangled in

that idea. We have to accept millions and trillions of   body and then

go on in the cycle of birth, death, old age and   disease. This is

implication. So purify the mind. That is the chanting   of Hare Krsna

maha-mantra. Ceto-darpana-marjanam   bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam. When

our mind is cleansed… This is maha-davagni. This   expansion of mental

ideas, thousands and millions, that is maha…,   bhava-maha-davagni.

Bhava-maha-davagni. So it is the duty of guru   to get out his disciple

from the bhava-maha-davagni.   Samsara-davanala-lidha-loka-tranaya

karunya-ghanaghanatvam. Karunya,   karunya.

750115SB.BOM                      Lectures

So people may be astonished, that “They are reading   Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Why they are discussing the action and reaction of   fire?” Generally,

they think Bhagavata reading means rasa-pancadhyaya,   bas, immediately

jump over to the rasa-lila of Krsna. Actually to know   God means to

know everything in detail. Kasmin tu bhagavo   vijnate sarvam idam

vijnatam bhavati. That is the Vedic injunction.   If we understand

Krsna, then we must understand also how Krsna’s   different energies are

working. That is called tattvatah. Krsna   says in the Bhagavad-gita,

manusyanam sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye. The   other day I was

reading Gandhi’s discourses on Bhagavad-gita. He said   that “I can

imagine any way Krsna. I do not accept the   historical Krsna.” In this

way, so many things. He was a big man. He can say like   that. But we

cannot imagine or manufacture Krsna. That is not   possible. That is not

Krsna. God is never imagined or speculated or   manufactured by my

limited knowledge and limited senses. That is not   Krsna. Of course,

Krsna is everything. But if we want to know tattvatah   Krsna, in truth,

how Krsna has created the panca-bhuta and how each   bhuta or each

material element is working, that is being discussed.   This is perfect

knowledge, tattvatah.

So because they do not want to know Krsna in tattvatah,   factually,

therefore they mistake Krsna. Especially they attack   Krsna, that “He

killed so many demons. He had rasa-lila with so many   gopis. He married

so many wives,” misunderstand Krsna. But if Krsna is   all-powerful,

almighty, then what is difficulty for Him to marry   16,108 wife? Krsna

has many, many millions and millions of   devotees. Some of them

…   So   to understand Krsna, krsna-upadesa, to know about Krsna, that is

Krsna consciousness movement. Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s   mission is like

that. Yare dekha, tare kaha ‘krsna’-upadesa. If you   study just like

here, analytical study of fire… Dyotanam,   illumination; pacanam,

digesting; panam, increasing thirst. If you don’t feel   thirsty, that

means the agni, or the fire element within the stomach,   is not

working. Agni-mandya. Mandya, the word comes from   manda. Manda means

slow. So the Ayurvedic treatment, they say it,   agni-mandya. So when

there is agni-mandya, there is medicine how to ignite   the fire again.

There is fire within the stomach, within the abdomen.   Everything is

…   So   to know Krsna means know everything, because Krsna   is

everything. How Krsna is working in everything,   even in different

parts of our limbs, represented by demigods, they are   all described.

Even our eyelids moving under the direction of some   demigod. And

demigods, they are different parts and parcels, bodily   limbs of whole

Krsna. So do not mind, “Why Bhagavata is studying Krsna   so

analytically?” That is required. If we   understand Krsna by analytical

study, how His divine power is working throughout the   whole universe,

within the atom, within myself, within the movable,   immovable,

everywhere, antaryami… Eko ‘py asau racayitum   jagad-anda-kotim.

Jagad-anda-koti. This universe, that is not one   universe. We are in

….      Therefore in the advanced stage of devotional life a devotee   does

not see fire. He sees Krsna. A devotee does not see   air, but he sees

Krsna. A devotee does not see sky, but he sees   Krsna. Sarvatra haya

nija ista-deva-sphurti. Ista-deva. Krsna is the   worshipable Deity of

the devotee. So immediately, he sees anything, because   he knows it is

Krsna’s energy… Just like we, generally, as   soon as we see in the

morning light, we can understand there is sun,   immediately. There is

no delay. “Now there is sun.” The sun may not be   visible immediately,

but because the darkness is gone and there is light,   although glimpse

light, now we understand this is morning, and now there   is sun.

Similarly, a advanced devotee, because he knows   everything is Krsna’s

energy… So this is energy study. Therefore in the   Bhagavad-gita it

is said, raso ‘ham apsu kaunteya: “Apsu, in the water,   the taste I

am,” because every one of us becomes thirsty and we   take water. And

actually it is so; the taste of water is Krsna.   Otherwise who can give

taste unless Krsna is there? Now take. There are big,   vast water in

front of Bombay. Now change the taste. Then there is no   need of

acquiring water from here and there, bringing big, big   pipes. No. You

take and change the taste, salty taste, and making   drinkable. No. That

you cannot unless Krsna does it. Therefore the taste is   Krsna. It is

…not difficult to   understand.

So   if we study in this way, analytically, everything,   Krsna’s

energy… Sasi-suryayoh. Prabhasmi   sasi-suryayoh. Krsna says, “I am

the illumination of the sun and the moon.” So you can   create by…

Scientists, they say the sun is combination of so many   chemicals. Now

you create one sun and illuminate the whole universe.   That you cannot

do because that is Krsna. You cannot create Krsna. You   cannot imagine

Krsna. That is not possible. Foolish persons, they may   say, “Krsna is

my imagination.” No, He’s not imagination. He’s fact.   Simply one has

to know how Krsna is present in everything. That is   described in the

Bhagavad-gita.

                          raso ‘ham apsu kaunteya

                          prabhasmi sasi-suryayoh

                           pranavah sarva-vedesu

sabdah khe paurusam nrsu

So there is list of understanding Krsna. Don’t say that “We   have

not seen God. Can you show me God?” Why don’t you see?   The God says,

“I am here,” but why don’t you see? God says, “I am the   taste of

water.” So when you drink water, why don’t you see God   in the taste?

He is visible in every step. Every working of this   nature, He is doing

that. Simply we have to make our eyes to see. That is   Krsna

consciousness. Everything is there, present. Krsna,   God, is present

everywhere.    Andantara-stha-paramanu-cayantara-stham. Krsna is  present

here. Krsna is within your heart. Isvarah   sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese

‘rjuna tisthati. But when you learn the art to see   Him within your

heart, that is called mystic yoga.   Dhyanavasthita-tad-gatena manasa

pasyanti yam yoginah.

The   yogic process is to see Krsna within the heart. That is  real

yoga. That is real yoga system. Try to see Krsna within   the heart.

Then you first-class yogi. That is the perfection of   topmost yogic

process.

                            yoginam api sarvesam

                           mad-gatenantar-atmana

                         sraddhavan bhajate yo mam

                           sa me yuktatamo matah

If you   can learn how to see Krsna within the heart always,  twenty-four

hours, then your life is successful. That is perfection   of life. That

is Krsna consciousness movement, how you can learn to   see Krsna within

your heart, within other’s heart, and everywhere.   Sthavara-jangama

dekhe na dekhe tara murti. This is   wanted.

So this is possible by increasing our love for Krsna. Simply   we

have to increase our love. Just like   in practical life also, we begin

to love somebody, one after another, gradually, not all   of a sudden,

similarly, we have to increase our love for Krsna. That   love for Krsna

is the devotional   process.

                          sravanam kirtanam visnoh

                           smaranam pada-sevanam

                          arcanam vandanam dasyam

                           sakhyam   atma-nivedanam

Then surrender. That is the ultimate state of loving   affairs,

surrender. Why one should surrender to another person   unless there is

love? Just like wife surrenders to husband and husband   protects the

wife. This is general duty. So why one man is   interested with one

woman for giving her all protection, and why one man is   surrendered

to…, one woman is surrendered to one man? What is the   basic

principle? The basic principle is love. So   similarly, our full

surrender, full Krsna consciousness, can be achieved   when we develop

our love for Krsna little by little, little by little,   and then come

to the perfection. When we come to the perfection, then   we cannot live

without Krsna. Just like Caitanya Mahaprabhu   taught us. In the last

stage of His life He exhibited such manifestation of   love that He was

dying without Krsna. Sunyayitam jagat sarvam   govinda-virahena me.

Sunyayitam. Sunyayitam, everything is vacant.   Sunyayitam jagat sarvam

govinda-virahena me. “Without Govinda, I see   everything vacant.”

Sometimes we have got experience. If we lose a friend,   a son, at that

time, everything becomes vacant without my son, without   my lover. That

is practical. So Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was   exhibiting that type of

love for Krsna, that He was feeling that “Without   Krsna, everything is

void.” Sunyayitam jagat sarvam govinda-virahena me.   This He taught

personally, how to raise oneself to the topmost stage   of love for

Krsna. That is the ultimate aim and object of life.   Preman… (break)

…yam syama-sundaram acintya-guna-svarupam govindam   adi-purusam tam

aham   bhajami. To see Krsna within the heart always, ..   (end)
