As long as we maintain our previous material designations we can’t understand  Krsna Consciousness–SP

Prabhupāda: Yes, if we open our heart, then open-heartedly, then it will be nice. No reservation. And that open-heartedness means free from designation. That is open-heartedness. If I think, “Oh, I am American. Why shall I take this Indian philosophy?” Or if I think, “I am Christian. Why shall I take the philosophy of Bhagavad-gītā?” then it will not work. One has to be free from these designations. Then it will be easy. I am… God is God, and I am also part and parcel of God, my relationship with God. So let me understand what is that relationship, what is God, what I am. That freedom, that open-heartedness will make it. But if I try to understand as Christian, as Englishman, as Japanese, as Indian, then it will be difficult. Many of our students joined, even initiated, but they could not make them free from these stereotyped ideasSarvopādhi vinirmuktaṁ tat-paratvena nirmalam [Cc. Madhya 19.170]. One must be free from the… Aiye aiye. So let us go.

Some Conclusions– Prabhupada states above his experience  with people, especially devotees who have been initiated by him, that they/we still maintain their/our previous  bodily  and mental designations of conditional life. So he has explained to us how we should act and think as devotees, but if we do not hear his words, then we will maintain previous bodily ideas and never have access to the spiritual realm.
Most of us will think, oh he is talking about others, not myself. I have no designations, I understand  completely I am not this body, nor did I take birth in a certain country, born of certain highly elevated parents.nor do I belong to this body, family, community, or nation or even this earth planet or universe !
According to Bhagavad gita, the soul does not take birth, does not die, nor does he have anything to do with matter, but due to his mental and bodily conditioning, which is due to his association with Maya, the illusory energy of God, he or she thinks in this way. Who among us thinks in this way?
Madhya 19.170-TRANSLATION-” ‘Bhakti, or devotional service, means engaging all our senses in the service of the Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the master of all the senses. When the spirit soul renders service unto the Supreme, there are two side effects. One is freed from all material designations, and, simply by being employed in the service of the Lord, one’s senses are purified.’
PURPORT-This verse quoted from the Nārada-pañcarātra is found in the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu (1.1.12).
