Everyone’s friend, by Haripada dasa

Hare Krishna, I lovingly and confidently share a paragraph from a small book by Srila Prabhupada entitled Meditation and Superconsciousness:
We are looking for a friend to provide us with peace and quiet. That friend is Krishna, God. Just make friends with Him, and you will find that the whole world will become your friend. Since God is situated in everyone’s heart, if you make friends with God, He will instruct everyone inwardly to treat you friendly. One who befriends the chief of police receives certain benefits. If you make friends with the president of the country, everyone will be your friend, since everyone is subordinate to the president. If you want something from an official, you just have to call the president and he will tell him: “Okay, help this man,” and so everything is resolved. Just try to befriend God, and everyone else will become your friends. All people will become peaceful if they understand this beautiful truth, that God is the friend of all and that He is the supreme owner. Lord Chaitanya also explains this.
By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna I have been from 1984 to 2011 distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books, I will have spoken face to face with more than 4 million people, in this transcendental activity one experiences that Krishna is the supreme controller and that one is his loving servant, in Guatemala twice Lord Nrisimhadeva saved my life, Srila Prabhupada always said that we should pray to Lord Nrisimhadeva for protection and blessings to be able to preach. Wherever you go you will see selfishness, hypocrisy and fighting, but as Srila Prabhupada says in this paragraph that all people will become peaceful if they understand this beautiful truth, that God is the friend of all and that He is the supreme owner. Lord Chaitanya also explains this.

No need to go anywhere-live locally and grow your own food-SP

January 28, 2022 in Articles by Damaghosa dasa

No need to go anywhere-live locally and grow your own food-SP
Prabhupada proves it can be done-even the eskimos dont have cars and live in ice houses.

May 28, 1974, Rome
Dhanañjaya: In Greenland?
Prabhupāda: Others cannot live locally.
Satsvarūpa: That’s not their karma?
Prabhupāda: No, karma is there. That is another point. My point is that any condition, one can live locally. That is my point. They are supposed to be uncivilized, and they live in the ice cottage. There is no sufficient things for eating. And how they live? That is the point. So why civilized man cannot live locally?
Satsvarūpa: One objection to that is that they say that now cultures have been spread more by all this transportation. You even write that the world is now like a global village. But if everyone just stays in their own place, they won’t know what people and culture is like in other parts of the world, and their view will be more narrow.
Prabhupāda: No. They may go sometimes. Just like in India, they used to live locally, but at the same time they used to go to the pilgrimages by walking. It is not prohibited that one should not go out, but when one goes out, he goes out of pleasure, not as obligation. At the present moment, it has become an obligation, that one must go out of his home, of his village, of his country. That is defective. There was no need of so many transports. People remained locally. One has to go for livelihood hundred miles. This is defective.
Dhanañjaya: But people say they travel for education.
Prabhupāda: What education? Hippies? Your education has ended into hippies. Finish that education, nonsense education. Now, you have seen in Harmonist that the school children, they are having sex intercourse publicly, and they are running naked in America. Is it not?
Satsvarūpa: Yes It’s a very big thing now, running naked.
Dhanañjaya: It’s called “streaking.
Prabhupāda: Whatever it may be, the nonsense education, result is like that. Is that education? I first, when I saw in Honolulu University—all hippies, all the students, half naked and niggardly dressed. Why so many? They are all students. You see? It has become a fashion. This is the education. And one commissioner has… You have not seen our Harmonist prepared. Collapse.
Satsvarūpa: I saw it yesterday. The president of Temple University, he said this was good, this running naked.
Prabhupāda: And another has that “education has collapsed.”
Dhanañjaya: They have lost all sense of moral values.
Prabhupāda: Animals. The whole material civilization is based on animalism. Therefore now they are coming as naked animals. The basic principle of the civilization is animalism. Now… It was covered by the progress of time. Now they are coming to be naked animals, that’s all.
————————
740525mw.rom Conversations Prabhupada: Stick to your own place and grow your foodThere is no question of transport. Little transport is required, that bullock cart.  Krsna was being carried on bullock cart. There is no use of petrol. Use  simply the bull. They are already there. Utilize them.

►740524r2.rom Conversations … Yes, naturally. If this man is fed up with  this industry, he can go back to village and  produce his own food. But he is attached to this industrial  activity because he is thinking that “We are getting more money for wine and  woman and meat. Let me enjoy.” That is the perfect, imp…  But  if he chants Hare Krsna maha-mantra, his consciousness  will be purified and he will be made not interested this kind of work. He will go back to village  and produce food.

►740525mw.romConversations Prabhupada: Yes, that was Gandhi’s philosophy, village  organization. These people, they are attracting villagers to work in the  factory, and they are exploiting them…. our philosophy. Make your  life successful. By becoming Krsna conscious, you become free from  all these troubles of material  condition. This is our education. Don’t be after these  motorcars, television, and all nonsense things, sporting, wine, women. Don’t  be after these. Simply eat sufficiently, keep  your health nicely, chant Hare Krsna, realize Krsna, and  go back  to home This is our  philosophy…

►740527mw.rom Conversations … Keep amongst yourself and produce. Produce  food grain, produce cotton, mustard seed Self dependent, no use… And we don’t require motorcar. Bullock cart is sufficient. There is no need of going anywhere…

Cleanliness is next to Godliness–SP

January 25, 2022 in Articles by Damaghosa dasa

Cleanliness is one of the four pillars of spiritual life (the other three are mercy, austerity and truthfulness)
The best way of purifying oneself is the pure chanting of Hare Krishna.
Srila Prabhupada commented on this topic as follows:

1) (Lecture 1976). “If we don’t lead a brahminical life, we are not allowed to call ourselves brahmanas. You may be the son of a respected high court judge, but if you don’t have the required qualification, you cannot call yourself a judge…there has to be an institution for training and educating brahmanas. Everyone should be classified according to his education and his qualities.”

2) “Sri vigraharadhana-nitya-nana-sringara-tan mandira marjanadau. Marjanadau means cleansing. The spiritual master along with his disciples is always engaged in cleansing the temple of Sri Sri Radha Krishna. If the cleanliness is neglected, it is a sure sign of laziness. If one is lazy, one doesn’t keep his environment clean. “First let me sleep.” This is the mode of ignorance, tama-guna. We have to overcome raja-guna and tama-guna. Satvam visuddham vasudeva sabditam.
The heart has to be pure if we want to receive Krishna and allow Him to reside there pleasantly.”

3) (Letter 1971). “In India it is custom that the kitchen is not even in the same building where the living rooms are because living rooms are contaminated. After cooking all the pots are thrown away. This is not possible in your country. Therefore you have to keep the utmost cleanliness. Krsna does not require opulent offerings. He appreciates the sincere endeavor. A clean kitchen is more important than an opulent offering. If the kitchen is neat and clean, then the offering will be good. If the offering is a so called “opulent offering” but the kitchen is not clean, Krsna will not like it.”
4) (1971 to Rishi Kumar): “Krsna consciousness means to have a clean bead bag.”
5) In the early days of the movement, Srila Prabhupada instructed the devotees to clean their plates and the cooking pots right after honoring prasadam. When one of the leaders saw that the devotees were not following his order, he asked Srila Prabhupada which method he should use to get the devotees to the point of following. “The order of the spiritual master should be sufficient,”replied Srila Prabhupada.
6) In Dallas and Edinburgh the devotees complained that there were rats in the temple. So they asked Srila Prabhupada, whether they were allowed to kill them. Srila Prabhupada’s answer was: “No, you should be killed because you took the vow of cleanliness but did not keep it!”
7) Srila Prabhupada once wrote to one devotee in London: “Each room should be clean as a mirror, otherwise you invite the rats…”
8) Once, when Srila Prabhupada was on a morning walk in Hawaii, he passed by the prasadam room. Seeing him, the devotees were in so much ecstasy, that they dropped everything and ran after Prabhupada. His Divine Grace led everyone on the compound and then returned to the temple room. Soon later, Guru Kripa complained to Prabhupada about the left over prasadam and the unclean prasadam room and also mentioned how he had difficulties to bring the devotees to the point of cleaning. Srila Prabhupada: “If a devotee doesn’t clean, he can go home again and live with his mother.”
9) “When you are clean, you are in the spiritual world, Vaikuntha. When you are dirty, you are in the material world.”
10) SB 4.2.14-15: “Those who do not regularly bathe are supposed to be in association with ghosts and crazy creatures.”

10 volume SB has 1978 4th canto prints — with removal of so many pages, lines and changing translations

NOTICE-SEEKING SERIOUS DEVOTEES TO TAKE OVER OUR DEITY SEVA – WHEN IAM GONE

January 21, 2022 in Articles by Damaghosa dasa

Hare Krsna–I am looking for some or several serious devotees who can take over the worship of our Deities here at Sri Sri Gaura Nitai mandir-when I leave my body.
Below is a few pictures of the deity cabinet which holds about 26 different beautiful silk, or rayon or cotton outfits . No plastic or synthetic fabrics here.
Much of the jewelry is hand made or bought in India. Some of the jeweled garlands are made of gold or silver caps with semi precious stones in between. like corals, pearls, carnelian etc.
There are also 2 separate trays of turbans and jari crowns.  All the turbans and outfits were made by my devoted wife.
You can also see hanging on the cabinet doors much in the way of jewelry
There is also a separate cabinet holding about 16 different backdrops for the two main altars.
These oak cabinets with marble tops are all custom hand made  to fit all this paraphernalia.
And then there is the book library which speaks for itself. All of Srila Prabhupadas original books are there and many many other books by the 6 goswamis as well as other prominent Vaisnava Acaryas.
So you can see this is a treasure house of nectar.
there is also 11 different alagram and govardhana silas with  Their respective asanas and backdrops.
There is actually too much here to list, but suffice it to say, one can start a small temple with all this Divine paraphernalia
So as not to put this burden on my wife if  she survives me, I am  attempting to make arrangements now for the  continuation of this  work.
Hare Krsna

The Rascal Editors Conversation: Context Defines the Order

BY: VIDURA MAHATMA DAS

7 JULY, 2018

On June 22, 1977, in a discussion on unauthorized changes being made to his books, Srila Prabhupada ordered: “The next printing should be again to the original way.”

Of course, this statement, like any other instruction from Srila Prabhupada, should be understood according to its context.

The context begins when, in the conversation, Srila Prabhupada detects a faulty change made to verse 1.2.5 in the Srimad Bhagavatam by an editor.

“Interpretations for Sense Gratification”

Why Iskcon Leaders Reject Ritvik Initiations

By Narasimha das

This discussion often arises: Why do many of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples reject his clear and common-sense order for ritvik initiations? Some devotees suggest it is due to ignorance or a misunderstanding caused by deliberate false propaganda. Others suggest it is simply because they are falsely ambitious. Others say it is due to jealousy or envy. Any or all these things may be true, but the primary reason is best described by Srila Prabhupada himself in many places, including the following letter:

“I have got this personal experience in my Guru Maharaj’s institution. Different Godbrothers took the words of Guru Maharaj in different interpretations for sense gratification and the whole mission [was] disrupted. This is still going on for the last 40 years without any proper settlement. I am always afraid of this crack, but I am sure if our aim is to serve Krishna sincerely and the Spiritual Master simultaneously, that will be our success. That means serve Krishna and the Spiritual Master simultaneously with equal faith and serious vow, and then success is sure. ” (Letter, Oct.18, 1969)

“regularly this book Kṛṣṇa, he will be liberated, simply by reading this book.”-SP

January 12, 2022 in Articles by Damaghosa dasa

May 2, 1974 m0rning walk Bombay
…”regularly this book Kṛṣṇa, he will be liberatedsimply by reading this book.”

In this morning walk Srila Prabhupada explains the meaning of full surrender, how only demons come to this material world, and the real meaning of transcendental anxiety or separation from Krsna
Girirāja: Another thing we were discussing yesterday is that in Goloka there are no demons.
Prabhupāda: No. There cannot be any demons. Then how it is Vaikuṇṭha? Vaikuṇṭha means without any anxiety. So the situation of anxiety is created by the demons. Therefore, when Kṛṣṇa wants to fight, He has to come down here because there is no question of fighting. There is no chance of fighting. Everyone is devotee. A devotee will never agree. But they will agree Kṛṣṇa’s fight, but here, in this field.
Girirāja: But the sentiment of anxiety or fear for Kṛṣṇa, is that sentiment in Goloka?
Prabhupāda: No. There is no such thing. That is separation. Just like gopīs, they are full of anxiety: “Oh, Kṛṣṇa has gone to the pasturing ground.” Their anxiety is there. Just like Rukmiṇī, she was thinking, “Oh, Kṛṣṇa may not give me up. He is talking in this way.” She fainted. So anxiety is there. So the anxiety is that one may not be separated from Kṛṣṇa. That is the anxiety. And actually there is no separation, but the feeling of separation out of ecstatic love. Just like one who has got love for the other person, beloved, he always thinks like that, “My beloved may not be separated from me.” This is ecstasy of love. Just like a miser man who has got much wealth, he always thinks, “My money may not be lost. My money may not be lost.” Out of his too much attachment for the money, he thinks like that. Is it not? “How shall I protect this money? How shall I protect this?” To earn money is also troublesome. To keep money also troublesome. And when it is lost, that is also troublesome. This is the position. But there is no such thing, loss, but the anxiety is there. We shall return from here? [break] …vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām. So both the sādhu and the duṣkṛtina, by Kṛṣṇa’s two activities, act differently to the devotees and to the demons. They realize. That is their achievement. By punishment, this Kāliya realized, “Oh, Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Lord.” And devotees, by out of love, they realize. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is Absolute. In either process He is realized. Mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ. If one is sincere, then they gradually make progress. Yes. [break] …vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām.
Girirāja: “O Lord, You have descended especially for the purpose of annihilating all kinds of disturbing elements within the world, and because You are the Absolute Truth, there is no difference between Your mercy and punishment.” [break]
Prabhupāda: …surgical operation is there, the knife is being used on the body, that means he is getting relief. It is not punishment. Hare Kṛṣṇa. (Hindi) [break]
Girirāja: Is that benefit coming in all suffering or only when it is given by Kṛṣṇa?
Prabhupāda: Yes. When there is suffering given by Kṛṣṇa… Therefore a devotee does not take seriously suffering. Tat te ‘nukampāṁ susumīkṣamāṇaḥ [SB 10.14.8]. A devotee thinks, “It is the favor of Kṛṣṇa that he has put me into suffering.” They never see suffering as suffering. It is favor of Kṛṣṇa. That is devotee’s vision. [break] It is exactly like a son who knows his father well. If the father slaps, the son never protests. He knows that “It is good for me.” Similarly, a devotee is never disturbed when there is suffering given by Kṛṣṇa. [break]
Girirāja: A karmī is suffering just the laws of…
Prabhupāda: The karmī is different. The karmī is suffering. He is suffering just like criminal is suffering. A criminal is given slap by the police. That slap, and the father is giving slap, that slap is different. Although it looks the same thing, but there is great difference.
Satsvarūpa: So there is no benefit to suffering unless it is connected with Kṛṣṇa.
Prabhupāda: Yes. When Kṛṣṇa… Therefore we shall fully surrender to Kṛṣṇa. As Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says, mārobi rākhobi yo icchā tohārā: “Now I surrender. Now if you want to maintain me, that is all right, and if You want to kill me, that is also all right.” This is surrender. It is not business, “If You maintain me, then I surrender. If You kill me, then I do not.” It is not like that. Mārobi rākhobi yo icchā tanhārā. “As You like. If You want to maintain, that is also good; if You want to kill, that is also good.” This is devotee’s view.
Satsvarūpa: Someone might say, “But if one is surrendered why should Kṛṣṇa give him trouble?”
