So this should be minimized, and we should be engaged twenty-four hours. If we remain engaged in that way… We have got so many engagement. We are daily singing—I do not know whether you understand the meaning—śrī-vigrahārādhana-nitya-nānā-śṛṅgāra-tan-mandira mārjanādau, yuktasya bhaktāṁś ca niyuñjato ‘pi vande guroḥ śrī-caraṇāravindam **. We have got śrī-vigraha. The śrī-vigraha-sevā—all rising early in the morning, arrange for maṅgala āratrik, then dressing, then offering food, then āratrik, so many hours. The whole day can be used in that way. Then reading books, class, taking care of the temple. Tan-mandira-mārjanādau. Don’t think that if one is engaged in the Deity worship and if one is engaged in the gardening work there is distinction. No. The one who is working as a gardener, he is as good as the one who is dressing the Deity, because it is Absolute plane. There is no difference between…

. Just like in the material world, if one is working as manager and the other is working as menial servant, there is difference of pay or difference of service. No. In the spiritual world there is no such thing. In the spiritual world even a small ant who is serving Kṛṣṇa by chance… Suppose if there is an ant and the flower is thrown into the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa and the ant kisses the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, he is as good as the pūjārī. This is spiritual world. So we should give everyone chance how to serve Kṛṣṇa. Then he will remain on the upper platform. Samatītya. Atītya mean transcending. Etan guṇān. Etan guṇān means because the material world is complicated with the modes of material nature, so this is called guṇa. So anyone who is engaged constantly in devotional service, sa guṇān samatītyaitān [Bg. 14.26], he immediately transcends the influence of the material qualities. Sa guṇān samatītya etān brahma-bhūyāya kalpate.

Hare Krsna -what we have below is a somewhat detailed examination of bhakti  yoga and karma yoga. Before we become perfect bhakta yogis, we have to perfect at  karma yoga.

SB 5.14.1
TRANSLATION

When King Parīkṣit asked Śukadeva Gosvāmī about the direct meaning of the material forest, Śukadeva Gosvāmī replied as follows: My dear King, a man belonging to the mercantile community [vaṇik] is always interested in earning money. Sometimes he enters the forest to acquire some cheap commodities like wood and earth and sell them in the city at good prices. Similarly, the conditioned soul, being greedy, enters this material world for some material profit. Gradually he enters the deepest part of the forest, not really knowing how to get out. Having entered the material world, the pure soul becomes conditioned by the material atmosphere, which is created by the external energy under the control of Lord Viṣṇu. Thus the living entity comes under the control of the external energy, daivī māyā. Living independently and bewildered in the forest, he does not attain the association of devotees who are always engaged in the service of the Lord.

….Since the material world is compared herein to a forest, it may be argued that in Kaliyuga modern civilization is mainly situated in the cities. A great city, however, is like a great forest. Actually city life is more dangerous than life in the forest. If one enters an unknown city without friend or shelter, living in that city is more difficult than living in a forest. There are many big cities all over the surface of the globe, and wherever one looks he sees the struggle for existence going on twenty-four hours a day. people rush about in cars going seventy and eighty miles an hour, constantly coming and going, and this sets the scene of the great struggle for existence. One has to rise early in the morning and travel in that car at breakneck speed. There is always the danger of an accident, and one has to take great care. In his automobile, the living entity is full of anxieties, and his struggle is not at all auspicious.

SB 5.14.2
In the forest of material existence, the uncontrolled senses are like plunderers. The conditioned soul may earn some money for the advancement of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, but unfortunately the uncontrolled senses plunder his money through sense gratification. The senses are plunderers because they make one spend his money unnecessarily for seeing, smelling, tasting, touching, hearing, desiring and willing. In this way the conditioned soul is obliged to gratify his senses, and thus all his money is spent. This money is actually acquired for the execution of religious principles, but it is taken away by the plundering senses

…One should understand that the wealth and opportunity one gets in the material world should not be squandered in sense gratification. They are meant for the advancement of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is therefore teaching people to control the mind and five knowledge-acquiring senses by a definite process. One should practice a little austerity and not spend money on anything other than the regulative life of devotional service. The senses demand that one see beautiful things; therefore money should be spent for decorating the Deity in the temple. Similarly, the tongue has to taste good food, which should be bought and offered to the Deity. The nose can be utilized in smelling the flowers offered to the Deity, and the hearing can be utilized by listening to the vibration of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. In this way the senses can be regulated and utilized to advance Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Thus a good position might not be spoiled by material sense gratification in the form of illicit sex, meat-eating, intoxication and gambling. One spoils an opulent position in the material world by driving cars, spending time in nightclubs or tasting abominable food in restaurants. In these ways. the plundering senses take away all the assets that the conditioned soul has acquired with great difficulty.

Inspirational Quotes on Book Distribution.

Inspirational quotes on the importance of book distribution from the conversations, lectures and writings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

In 1965, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada arrived in America. He had bravely left India at the age sixty-nine to translate and distribute Indi,s wisdom texts in the West. He departed this world twelve years later, and in that short period managed the astonishing feat of writing more than fifty volumes of translation and commentary. It was a remakable achievement that has led to the establisment of more than three hundred centers for Krishna Consciousness around the world.
– Now I am trying for printing arrangement and this book also can be nicely printed provided you take charge of distribution. I am very much anxious for sale of my books. It has to be organized; please think over this matter. If the books are not properly sold how can I print so many books?
[Letter to Kirtanananda, 27 April 1967]
“So this press propaganda, this literary propaganda, is required because it is not sentiment. Krishna consciousness is not sentiment. It is not that some sentimental people have gathered here and dancing and chanting. No. There is background. There is philosophical background. There is theological understanding. It is not blind or sentimental.”
June 11, 1969
“You are trying for the new temple, but our main business is sankirtan and distribution of literature. If Krishna gives us a better place, that is all right. Otherwise, we can remain at any place never mind hell or heaven; but we shall be only very cautious about propagating our sankirtan movement.”
Letter to Madhudivisa, March 26, 1970
Distribution of books and magazines is our most important activity. Without books, our preaching has no solid basis.
Letter to Cyavana, 26 December 1971
“Yes, my order still stands. Please organize BTG distribution and do it nicely. Sankirtana Party and distribution of our magazines and books is our real program. Other things are secondary. So during the summer time you should utilize this program of Sankirtan and book distribtuion vigorously. ”
Letter to Satsvarupa, 21, June 1971

Hare Krsna-
Below are two different  things- a lectures and a conversation-but they both are on the same topic.
Sannyasa or renunciation of actions. In order to serve Krsna, or enter fire, as Srila Prabhupada explains, we have to become like fire or like Krsna-namely pure.
Now here below in this example he explains how one works in this material world outside the walls of some Krsna temple, where he or she may have a job or some business.
It is easy to understand if one is a bramacari or sannyasi then all his business (at least in theory) is Krsna related and therefore no reaction comes from this transcendental work.
Now what happens to the rest of us who don’t live as a bramacari, brahmacarini or sannyasi? How do we live in this world and still incur no reactions to our work?
I would think this is a good question most devotees have asked themselves at least once or twice. Srila Prabhupada, as our guru gives us that answer below.

Srila Prabhupada re: Krishna Consciousness and the platform of deathlessness

Krishna Consciousness means to be on the platform of deathlessness.
Every sloka in Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam is informing us of this.
If you read these books carefully you will understand this platform of deathlessness
as opposed to the material condition in which no one wants to die but no one can check death.

Our book distribution program is most important work.
Anyone reading our KRISHNA book, Teachings of Lord Chaitanya, Nectar of Devotion, and Bhagavad As It Is,
is sure to become a Krishna Conscious person.

Therefore somehow or other we must push on this literature distribution program,
either through schools, colleges, libraries, life membership program or ordinary sales.
It is an important and most valuable service to Krishna.

Pulling the plug on the Fan of Karma

January 25, 2016 in Damaghosa Dasa by Laksman dasa

DSCN7533

Hare Krsna-Below we have several short bits of info from various lectures/purports by Srila Prabhupada where he so easily explains how we can act in this material world , be blissfully happy by this action AND at the same time experience NO karmic reaction to these acts.
OR, we can choose to ignore our spiritual masters teachings and again become implicated in past karma. We all know his example of pulling the plug on the fan or karma and then because of misuse of our eternal freedom to act, we again return to producing more bad karma for ourselves.
He starts out below at an initiation lecture explaining how an iron rod become fire when kept in a fire long enough. Similarly, we have to keep ourselves IN that fire of Krsna Conscious activities, all the time in order to  produce the effect of fire, or complete KC,otherwise, we must go thru the gradual process of in the fire and out of the fire before we understand being out of the fire means only perpetual suffering  thru re birth with only “one “pinch” of material desire.
As Srila Prabhupada has said many times, “this Krsna Consciousness is not for the less intelligent.”

In this present day, people are very much eager to have one scripture, one God, one religion, and one occupation.
Therefore, ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam: let there be one scripture only,
one common scripture for the whole world – Bhagavad-gita.
Eko devo devaki-putra eva: let there be one God for the whole world – Sri Krishna.
Eko mantras tasya namani: and one hymn, one mantra, one prayer — the chanting of His name:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
Karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva: and let there be one work only —

Srila Prabhupada glorifies the Bhagavad Gita and the Ganges

Bhagavad-gita comes from the mouth of the Supreme Personality of Godhead,
and the Ganges is said to emanate from the lotus feet of the Lord.
Of course, there is no difference between the mouth and the feet of the Supreme Lord,
but from an impartial study we can appreciate that Bhagavad-gita
is even more important than the water of the Ganges.

Hare Krsna-just read the below is this morning’s class

Below is a nice explanation of the first order of business for devotees-to give up unwanted association. Both Krsna and Caitanya say the same thing only in opposite ways as pointed out below by Srila Prabhupada. In the NY temple back in 1971 it appears from this lecture there was one bogi yogi living therewith his girlfriend who presented himself as some sanskrit scholar and had fooled the local devotees into thinking this was true.

So conditions have not changed since then. We now have rascals or demons as Srila Prabhupada calls these so called sanskrit scholars, who change the sastra and words of the Acaryas, who are not only living in Srila Prabhupadas temples but also changing his books !!! And worse still, being followed by practically the entire iskcon movement-except for those who can detect these demons. I think we all know who these people are that I am speaking of here.

SOME AMAZING ASPECTS OF SPIRITUAL LIFE-THE BEST IS YET TO COME !!!

January 15, 2016 in Damaghosa Dasa by Laksman dasa

Hare Krsna-
Below we have some very interesting things for you-Srila Prabhupada kindly explains some of the inconceivable aspects of actual spirit life.
For example-he tells us of trees in Vaikuntha that can move from one place to another,
or about Srila Gadadhara Pandit who was considered the incarnation of Radharani and her luster was the incarnation of Gadadhara das,or
when we spiritualize our eating process, any part of our body will be able to eat,or
how we will be able to change spiritual forms like from a flower to a human form. Etc.
damaghosa das

ADI 9.32 purport
It is our experience in the material world that trees stand in one place, but in the spiritual world a tree can go from one place to another. Therefore everything in the spiritual world is called alaukika, uncommon or transcendental. Another feature of such a tree is that it can act universally. In the material world the roots of a tree go deep within the earth to gather food, but in the spiritual world the twigs, branches and leaves of the upper portion of the tree can act like the roots.

ADI 10.53 purport
Śrīla Gadādhara dāsa was known as an inhabitant of this village (eṅḍiyādaha-vāsī gadādhara dāsa). The Bhakti-ratnākara (Seventh Wave), informs us that after the disappearance of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Gadādhara dāsa came from Navadvīpa to Katwa. Thereafter he came to Eṅḍiyādaha and resided there. He is stated to be the luster of the body of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, just as Śrīla Gadādhara Paṇḍita Gosvāmī is an incarnation of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī Herself. Caitanya Mahāprabhu is sometimes explained to be rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalita, or characterized by the emotions and bodily luster of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Gadādhara dāsa is this dyuti, or luster.

so what to speak of one who drinks the nectar of Bhagavad-gita?
Bhagavad-gita is the essential nectar of the Mahabharata,

I am pleased to know that all of you are enthusiastically engaged in distributing our books.
In this modern Godless civilization, everyone is greatly suffering due to lack of the real knowledge of
Krishna consciousness, and our task is very great and very important.
We must deliver this pure science of God to everyone and give them the chance to make their lives successful.
So you continue this book distribution program very nicely,
and at the same time take advantage of these books yourselves.
Not that you just distribute but neglect reading them yourself.
Always read them, especially Krishna book. Every time you have a spare moment, you should read.
This will help you to advance in Krishna consciousness, and will give you the ability to convince others also.
Srila Prabhupada letter  May 5, 1975

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 18th February, 1971 and have noted the contents. You write to say that this Hare Krishna Movement is perfect in all respects. Thank you very much. And it is a fact that “Sankirtana will keep you happy and the books will keep you convinced‘, so make your program in that way and become fixed up in Krishna Consciousness.
